Safety Truck Net Systems: What is it & why you might need it

Updated: Mar 12

In the world of workplace safety, the numbers speak volumes. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, over 1 million non-fatal workplace injuries occur annually (1.2 million reported in 2021), with a portion of these incidents happening during the loading and unloading of trucks.

When it comes to the safety of your employees and third-party drivers, there's no room for compromise. That's why Eagle Material Handling's Safety Truck Net Solution is a critical investment in mitigating these risks.

A Safety Net in the Sky

It's a sobering fact that over 5,000 fatalities are reported each year (5,190 reported in 2021) due to workplace accidents. A significant portion of these fatalities are attributed to fall from heights. The Safety Truck Net System is a innovative fall protection net system designed to provide a "catch net" barrier for anyone working at heights during the loading or unloading of flatbed semi-trailers, regardless of their size. It's a safety solution that ensures that your employees and third-party drivers have all the necessary fall protection to prevent serious injuries in the event of a trip or fall.

Two Systems, One Goal: Safety

The statistics paint a clear picture - falls are among the leading causes of workplace injuries. According to the National Safety Council, in 2020, 805 workers lost their lives due to falls, making it the leading cause of workplace fatalities. This is where the Safety Truck Net System comes into play.

This innovative system comes in two configurations: the Stake Pocket and the Pivot Arm. Each system has its unique features, but both are designed with one primary goal in mind - ensuring the safety of those working at heights.

The Stake Pocket configuration connects to the flatbed via the side rails (loading strap rails) of the trailer. On the other hand, the Pivot Arm configuration is a game-changer in terms of labor efficiency. This configuration consists of a compression bar attached to the upright columns, which pivot and rest against the trailer. What makes the Pivot Arm configuration stand out is its incredible speed - it's about three times quicker to deploy or activate compared to the Stake Picket version. In industries where time is of the essence, the Pivot Arm configuration can significantly improve efficiency.

Bases for Stability

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) reports that falls from heights are a leading cause of injury in the workplace. Ensuring the safety of your workers is not only a moral responsibility but a legal one too. When it comes to installation, you have two options - the Permanent Base and the Non-Permanent Base. The Permanent Base comprises upright HSS (High-Strength Steel) columns that mount to your existing facility or area's concrete floor with four epoxy screws. On the other hand, the Non-Permanent Base is a flexible solution that allows the column to mount to a steel base filled on-site with concrete. The concrete used for the base needs to have a minimum 2,500 PSI to achieve a total weight of at least 4,200 lbs. The concrete should also cover the upper rebar by at least 2 inches. Once the concrete is set, these bases can be conveniently moved by a forklift.

Safety That Meets Standards

Safety is not only about protecting your workers but also about adhereing to industry standards. The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) reports that in the United States, there are over 25,000 fires in industrial and manufacturing properties each year, resulting in millions of dollars in property damage. The Safety Truck Net System ensures that your safety measures are up to par by providing a system that meets the NFPA701 standard. This standard is designed to safeguard lives and property from the hazards of fire and explosion.

Custom-Made for Your Needs

The safety statistics tell us that one size doesn't fil all. No two businesses are alike, and the Safety Truck Net System understands that. It's custom-made to fit any environment or application within the engineering tolerance. This flexibility ensures that you're not investing in a one-size-fits-all solution but a tailored system that suits your specific needs.

Ease of Use: No Training Required

In industries where time is money, an easy-to-use safety system can make a world of difference. Your employees and third-party drivers can focus on their tasks rather than worrying about complex safety procedures. It's as easy as 1, 2, 3.
